Homemade Sushi. Recipe step by step
You will see how easy it is to make sushi, how delicious it is and that you don’t have to wait for a special occasion to enjoy it.

For 5 servings.
We will need:
500 g Rice for sushi
5 pcs NORI sheets (seaweed sheets)
125 ml Rice vinegar
3 tablespoons Sugar (I use coconut sugar, but you can use any kind of sugar you prefere)
1 teaspoon salt
800 ml still water
For the filling:
1 Cucumber
1 Carrot
1 Avocado
Smoked salmon fillet
Cheese cream
Of course you can also add your favorite ingredients.

Wassabi paste
First we deal with rice, this will be the most “difficult part”, after we have the rice ready everything will be a game. We wash the rice in 4-5 waters, under a stream of cold water. We then put it in a pan with a thick, non-stick bottom and pour about 800 ml of water on top (for a cup of rice, we put a cup / cup and a quarter of water). Turn on the heat, when the water starts to boil, cover the pot with a lid and leave it on the fire for about 10 minutes.
Once the rice is cooked, we put it in a large tray or casserole and, over the hot rice, we put the sugar, the rice vinegar and the salt. Mix well until the sugar and salt melt. Then level the rice with a spatula and leave it to cool.
Until the rice cools, we do the rest of the preparations: we wrap the sushi rolling mat in food foil so that it doesn’t get dirty. Cut the salmon, carrot, cucumber and avocado into very thin strips.
After the rice has cooled, we are ready to assemble everything. We place the sheet of bamboo roll clouds (the rolling mat). The cloud sheet has a glossy part and a rough part, we place the sheet with the glossy part down and the rough part up. Then add a thin and even layer of rice. To spread the rice more easily on the sheet of clouds, you need to moisten your spatula with which you spread it or if you want to use your fingers, also moisten them in water.
We always leave about 1 cm of edge on one side, where we do NOT put rice, so that the roll stays tied.
Then add whatever filling you want. I like the combination with smoked salmon, cucumber and cream cheese or a vegetarian option with avocado, cucumber and carrot. Then we run with the help of the bamboo mat. After obtaining the roll, cut it into pieces of about 2,5 cm. To make it easier to cut, moisten the blade of the knife you are using.
They can be served with soy sauce, wasabi paste or plain.
