Niagara Falls

This is one of the most visited attractions in the world! It is a wonder. The combination of flow rate and height make the falls epic to see in person.

I had the opportunity to see this miracle created by nature. When I looked at it I realized how big is our world and how small is our existence. This planet is so beautiful and it worth to be visited and discovered.

The time that we spent at Niagara Falls was full of adventures, amazing experiences, but also peace and relaxation. The scenery it still imprinted in my soul and mind.

Niagara Falls is the collective name for three waterfalls that straddle the international border between the Canadian province of Ontario and the US state of New York. The three waterfalls are the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. Only 10% of this fall is on the American side. I also saw the American side of the falls, but I found out that the Canadian part is way more interesting, so I added a new place to my bucket list.

I discovered that it is considered the most beautiful falls in the world and it is number 5 in top 5 most visited attractions in the world in the front of Disney Land, Notre Dame Paris and the Great Wall of China.

The Niagara Falls is considered a natural reserve. The park was established in 1885 and is the oldest park in the area. Here there are a lot of activities that helps you “feeling the falls”.

Here is was we did in this amazing place.

1. We admired the falls from all the angles and we did a lot of pictures. It is wonderful to see it by day but also by night because there is a light show on the falls.
2. Cave of the Winds. This is the best way to get close to the falls on the American side. You climb up scaffolding that goes right to the base of the Bridal Falls. The weather conditions created by the falls are so intense that they have to rebuild the scaffolding each year. The tickets costs12 $. You will enter a portable building where they give you some water sandals to wear and a yellow poncho. This is the first clue that you will get wet. They give you a plastic bag to put your shoes in.  Unfortunately, you will have to carry your shoes in the bag through the Cave of the Winds – there are no lockers. The first thing you will notice is that the views from the scaffolding are spectacular. The second thing you will notice is how close you are to the falls and how amazing it is. An experience for all your senses!
3. Maid of the Mist. The main reason to visit Niagara Falls is to see the falls and one of the most memorable ways to do just that is to sport a poncho and hop on a Maid of the Mist boat. These boats have been shuttling visitors to and from the base of the falls since the 1840s. They have a capacity of 100 persons and give to you and half hour tour. Be prepared to get wet: the Maid of the Mist practically dunks you under the falls. OMG! Was a very intense experience.
4. After these two wet tours, we just walked around the falls. In the park we found out the Nikola Tesla’s statue and I came to my knowledge the big contribution he had in the development of the world. When he thought of the Niagara Falls, he saw it not just as a stunning display of nature’s might and majesty but as a way to create energy for human endeavors. In 1895, Tesla and industrialist George Westinghouse created the world’s first hydroelectric power plant at the Niagara Falls. Adam’s Power Station (Power House No. 3), the only remains of the old Niagara Falls Power Plant, may become a science museum.
5. Then we went to the Aquarium where we admired colored fishes, penguins and seals. Just adorable!
6. Also we took a ride with the Trolley. A nice way to visit relaxed the park and to admire the scenery. Each tour costs 2$.
7. And for the extravagant it is possible to admire the falls from the helicopter!

The first mention of the falls was in 1697. The priest Louis Hennepin, French explorer and missionary was the first that wrote about it. He saw the falls in 1678 when he had an expedition in the New World!

Niagara Falls is a must see on my bucket list! The experiences you’ll live there will be beautiful memories all your life!
